After making my portfolio website, I was feeling pretty confident about my web design skills and reached out to Genesis Emery, a tattoo artist in Champaign, Illinois, on Instagram when she had questions about designing her website. She responded after seeing my portfolio website and asked if I would be willing to help out with hers, and I did! I had a lot of fun working on a project outside of school and having a “client” of my own. She was incredibly fun to work with, and I had a wonderful experience working alongside her to build this website.

Genesis is a big fan of earth toned colors and wanted a website that was sleek but integrated some aspects of the cottagecore aesthetic that she loves. We stayed in communication throughout the process.

Some of the features that she wanted included an overall large portfolio page, but also a way for potential clients to look through her portfolio by category on the front page. We also wanted to create a small about section to let potential clients learn more about her, as well as sections for scheduling, pricing, and aftercare to field a lot of commonly asked questions from clients so that the process could be more streamlined.

I also built a section for her to use in the future for e-commerce should she choose to make any prints or raffles that she would like to sell on an online platform.

While I absolutely love having a physical portfolio in hand to look through, having an online portfolio is a great way to show potential clients and employers what you’re capable of and give a good taste of your personality to see if you’re a good fit to work together in advance.
